Attributable to Charles Boudouine, highly regarded New York cabinet maker (1808-1895).
These chairs relate closely to a set of forty-two made by New York cabinetmaker Charles A. Baudouine for The White House in the Polk administration circa 1842. Sixteen of these chairs remain in the collection of The White House (image in "The White House: Its Historic Furnishings & First Families" by Betty C. Monkman, (Washington, D.C., Abbeville Press, 2000), p.103.
