Overview

From Lancaster county in Pennsylvania, this American Empire chest features an outstanding original faux-bois finish with painted tooling and graining on the front and sides. Top is painted with a contrasting color achieved with oxblood paint, which is typical of the region and period. Original turned knobs, locks and bone key escutcheons, circa 1830.

Good. Chest is in good mechanical condition. Drawers glide easily. Original paint is distressed and chipped in areas as photographed. Drawers have original locks and 1 replacement key. Lock on second drawer from top does not work.
