Overview

A very lovely chest in birch with three drawers that is a transitional piece between Biedermeier and *German Louis Philippe. Northern Germany, circa 1845-50. Has original carved wood key plates in the form of a garland. Comes with working locks and one key.

*This North German chest of drawers represents a period in Germany known as Louis Philippe
after the French monarch who reigned from 1830 to 1848. This period in German furniture design marked a return to a more curvilinear design-form with stylized ornamentation, in contrast to Biedermeier's more angular lines, and continued until about 1870. Our chest is typical of the North German form of Louis-Philippe from the Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein regions.

Measures: 38" wide x 19" deep x 32" high

Place of Origin: Germany

Period: Circa 1845
