Description

10'3" long x 49" wide x 29 3/4" high Circa: 1850 Period: 19th Century Origin: Northern Europe Condition: Excellent Exceptional extension dining table with racetrack top and cabriole leg with well-articulated carving of scallop & palmette on knee. Comfortably seats 10, and up to 12. Incomparable French-polished finish. Table measures 90" long closed and has three leaves, each measuring 11". Fully-extended, the table measures 10' 3" long. Center leg folds down when table is extended to give additional support to the center of the table. Note: As is often the case with a European extension dining table, the original leaves were made of pine, instead of mahogany, since the table would have been covered with a tablecloth when extended. We newly fabricated the leaves in mahogany and skirted them, being careful to match the wood grain. Then we stained and French-polished the table. The center leg was added to support the table when extended, and retracts up and tucks underneath when the table is made smaller. Table has a deep lustrous finish, and has been French-polished. It is in excellent condition. Comes with a vertical wood box to store the leaves when not in use, and brass clamps/ tangs to secure the leaves when in use.
