Overview

American gilded age ebonized step back credenza with burled amboyna panels and finely articulated ormolu bronze doré mounts in the manner of NY cabinet makers Ringuet-Leprince, Marcotte and Co. The exquisite doré mounts and the European half mortise bayonet lock were imported from France. This was a typical manufacturing practice during the American Gilded Age as designers and cabinet makers like Leon Marcotte had workshops in both Paris and NY. and took advantage of the highly refined artistry of French ateliers that were supplying the finer residences in Newport and New York with every manner of millwork to hardware, circa 1875
