Overview

An exquisite English sheet music rack or Canterbury in prized rosewood with four fretwork partitions, one drawer, and resting on turned legs mounted on brass casters. England, circa 1830. Offers original turned and threaded pulls which are also made of solid rosewood.
According to the famous cabinetmaker, Sheraton, the name "Canterbury" arose "because the bishop of that see first gave orders for these pieces."
Makes a beautiful and decorative magazine or newspaper stand next to an armchair or sofa!
Measures: 22 1/2' long x 15 1/2" wide x 20 1/4" high.

This exceptional Canterbury is made of solid rosewood throughout, excepting the bottom of the drawer which is in pine and the sides which are in English oak. The construction & choice of secondary woods identifies it as an English piece.
