Overview
A very handsome "Hans Christian Andersen" writing desk in beautiful figured walnut with one drawer over kneehole, flanked by two drawers on each side for a total of 5 working drawers. The writing surface offers a wooden gallery in the way of a molding on three sides. It rests on four baluster-turned legs & is finished in the back so may float in the middle of a space, if desired. Desk comes with original brass key plates & pulls, working locks & 1 key. Denmark, circa 1850. In the Danish author's birthplace in Odense, which is a museum, there is a simpler version of this desk which gives this form its name. Restored in our workshop with French-polish finish. Makes a lovely nightstand, dressing table or vanity, too!
