Overview
A Bonnin Ashley custom made, dining table with plank-top and trestle base made from repurposed European pine. We can manufacture this Scandinavian-inspired table in any size up to 10' long. We offer a variety of trestle bases that will work with this top. We are showing a single plank trestle table we have named the “Noland” with a repurposed pine plank top that is 7' long x 36" wide.
What is special about our tables?
The tops are made of 80-year-old repurposed boards that come from Gouda Holland. They were originally used to rest the cheese wheels on after they were waxed. We brought them to the US in the late 1990s and repurposed them as tung and groove pine flooring with a traditional Danish chalk-lye finish. We are now resurrecting them again to make table tops, working with the lye finish and then sealing them with a water-based polyurethane that does not affect the color or sheen but makes the tops user-friendly allowing for soap and water clean-up without disturbing the under finish. The tops are reinforced with a poplar sliding dovetail flange that is inserted on the underside of the table and allows the boards to expand and contract independently of the base so that they will not crack or cup with changes in temperature and humidity.
The poplar trestle bases, stretcher, pegs and wedges can be finished in a variety of finishes including a limed finish to match the top or any number of painted finishes. All of our finishes are very complimentary to the repurposed tops and in keeping with the painted finishes of the Swedish Gustavian period.
