Overview
A very lovely late Gustavian or early Karl Johan console table with demilune form in carved and gilded wood with original white Carrara marble top, and Swedish cabinetmaker's label inside back edge. Features a back panel in bas relief depicting the great goddess or the Queen of Heaven, rhea, riding in a chariot pulled by lions and accompanied by two cherubs. The table rests on turned legs, and has a center support consisting of a large carved phoenix with outstretched wings crouched on a pedestal. The pedestal offers scenes in bas-relief with Greek and Roman references to Prometheus, Herme's caduceus, a torch and laurel wreath, Sweden, circa 1825, cabinet maker, Johan Martin Berg.
