A very rare, beautiful and captivating secretary in book-matched, flame mahogany with shaped, curvi-linear drawer fronts and faux drawer fronts on the fall-front and the sides. Offers four hidden compartments for valuables. France, circa 1855.
The transition from Biedermeier to Grunderzeit (the period of the New Republic in Germany) corresponds with a period referred to as Louis Philippe, reflecting the French influence of the reigning French monarch by that name who ruled France from 1830-1848, and consequently a move toward more curves and carving.
This is one exceptional piece of artistry, ideal as a focal point or anchor in a living room, bedroom or library!
