Overview

A very beautiful chest with seven drawers in fine West Indies mahogany. Denmark, circa 1825. Denmark had a vibrant trade route with Cuba in the early to mid 19th century. Danish ships returning from Cuba brought the highly regarded and much sought-after Cuban or West Indies mahogany which was employed in Danish cabinetry. This Chiffonier showcases this prized wood with a beautifully book-matched, figured grain running the length of the front of the chest. The cabinet is made in two parts to make it easier to transport. The upper part has a 3/4 spool-turned column with exquisitely carved capitals embellished with carved acanthus leaves. Brass key plates may or may not be original, but they work very well with the form. All locks are operational and chest comes with two working keys.
This multi purpose chest of drawers works well in a dining room as a silver & linen chest, in a bedroom, or an office. It is not only beautiful but extraordinarily functional!
